The Institute for Ocean Conservation Science The Institute for Ocean Conservation Science is dedicated to advancing ocean conservation through science. We conduct world-class scientific research that increases knowledge about critical threats to oceans and their inhabitants, with a strong emphasis on declining shark populations; provides the foundation for smarter ocean policy; and, establishes new frameworks for improved ocean conservation. The Institute and Shark Savers have entered into a partnership to develop community-supported marine protected areas called "Parks for Sharks," beginning with Glover's Reef, Belize.

Elasmo Research, or ReefQuest Centre for Shark Research, is rich in information about shark biology and evolution. It was written and illustrated by the late R. Aidan Martin and is fascinating and vast in its knowledge. We're not sure if this site is being updated anymore, but it's still one of our favorites.

Sharkwater is a movie by Rob Stewart that will change how you view sharks and alerts us to the problem being caused by the shark fin industry. Available worldwide on DVD.

WildAid 's mission is to end the illegal wildlife trade within our lifetimes. To achieve this WildAid uniquely focuses on raising awareness to reduce the demand for threatened and endangered species products and to increase public support for wildlife conservation. WildAid and Shark Savers are partnering on a mass-media and Internet grassroots campaign in China to curb the consumption of shark fin soup.

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is committed to the eradication of pirate whaling, poaching, shark finning, unlawful habitat destruction, and violations of established laws in the World's oceans. Sea Shepherd assists national and international bodies in the enforcement of international law under authority of the United Nations World Charter for Nature.

Shark Safe Network is a volunteer effort comprised of individuals and shark conservation groups taking action to protect sharks. Our campaigns target unsustainable activities and products that threaten the survival of sharks and our oceans.

Save our Seas Foundation is a non-profit Swiss foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. SOS Foundation's mission is to increase awareness, protection, preservation and conservation of the global marine environment, the world's greatest shared natural resource. SOS implements and supports diverse programs of education, protection and conservation of the seas all around the world.

AfriOceans Conservation Alliance (AOCA) is a non profit organisation based in South Africa, focused on shark conservation, and sponsored by the Save Our Seas Foundation. AOCA promotes the conservation and sustainable utilization of marine resources, in particular its sharks, through compelling education and awareness campaigns, and pioneering scientific research projects.

The Animal Welfare Institute has an anti-shark fin soup campaign in the United States which we support. Look at their site for a list of restaurants in your area that are serving shark fin soup.

Monterey Bay Aquarium has long been focused on promoting healthy oceans, and is of particular interest to us for their White Shark Research Project and their very valuable Seafood Watch, which gives fish eaters guidance as to which fish are safe to eat and are sustainably harvested (and which aren't).

Mote Aquarium and it's Center for Shark Research, dedicated to the scientific study of sharks and their relatives, the skates and rays.


The Shark Alliance is a global, not-for-profit coalition of non-governmental organizations dedicated to restoring and conserving shark populations by improving shark conservation policies. Shark Savers is a member of the Shark Alliance.

Using sharks as an icon, the South African Shark Conservancy (SASC) raises awareness about South Africa's marine resources and broader resource issues, promoting understanding, support and participation in the protection, sustainable utilisation and conservation of South Africa's living marine resources. SASCs research, education and partnership programmes use a holistic approach to accomplish realistic and innovative conservation goals.


Neil4Sharks is the personal website of Neil Hammerschlag and is intended to facilitate collaborations among teachers, scientists and students as well as promote shark conservation.

CocosAware is a volunteer organization that patrols the Cocos, Costa Rica marine preserve to deter illegal poaching.

SharkProtect.eu is a shark enthusiast site in Germany and is in German.


RJ Dunlap Marine Conservation  Program The mission of the R.J. Dunlap Marine Conservation Program is to advance ocean conservation and scientific literacy by combining cutting edge research and outreach activities. University of Miami students from several disciplines, including science, communication, law, education and engineering will have the opportunity to participate in exciting hands-on field and virtual learning experiences.

PangeaSeed is a Tokyo-based grassroots effort to educate and raise awareness of the plight of sharks around the world. Through volunteer activism and the media of art, music and photography, PangeaSeed aims to create an open dialogue with the global community to develop an understanding of the need to preserve and protect sharks and their habitat.

The White Shark Conservation Trust (WSCT) is a non profit organisation based in New Zealand. Our mission is "To contribute to the worldwide conservation of the great white shark. To increase public awareness, dispel the myths about the great white shark and provide some hope for the species survival." Our activities include raising funds to support white shark conservation and research projects in NZ; supporting the protection and preservation of the white shark; education and awareness; providing an avenue for those concerned with white shark survival to meet and interact and support; and, co-operation with organisations sharing similar aims.
