Last Updated April 03, 2009 1:00AM EST 3694 Bridget Mason, Springfield, New South Wales, Australia Please pass this law as it will hopefully encourage similar laws to be passed in other states and countries. We need to stop the slaughter of these beautiful and important animals NOW!! 3693 Not publicly disclosed, New York, NY, USA I grew up in Westchester and still have family there. I do not support the use of shark fin products at all. 3692 Scott Raymond Murchison, Ryde, New South Wales, Australia I believe that this law should be passed as this could start the ball rolling for similar laws to be made, hopefully an international ban on shark fishing. If we take out such an integral part of the balance of the ocean we are going to ruin the earth for everything in it, including ourselves. 3691 Not publicly disclosed, Torquay, QLD, Australia 3690 Not publicly disclosed, Lake City, FL, USA 3689 M Berry, London, UK 3688 Not publicly disclosed, Tarrytown, NY, USA 3687 Kelly O'Heron, Victoria, BC, Canada 3686 Adrian Lake, Ourimbah, NSW, Australia 3685 Not publicly disclosed, Mt. There is more to life than high profits. We need to start becoming a responsible species on this planet. 3639 Not publicly disclosed, Frankfurt am Main, Hessen, Germany 3638 Matt Ray, Brighton, East Sussex, UK 3637 Not publicly disclosed, Rexville, NY, USA 3636 Erin Smith, Tampa, FL, USA 3635 Stephanie Bachar, Delray Beach, FL, USA 3634 Joshua Birk, Chicago, IL, USA 3633 Kyle Burgess, Wrexham, Wrexham, Wales 3632 Not publicly disclosed, Lamont, Alberta, Canada It is wrong!!!!!! 3631 Amanda Herald, Milton, FL, USA Sharks are important to our ocean's ecosystem. Without sharks = without us. 3630 Jeannie Spike, Langdon, Alberta, Canada 3629 Not publicly disclosed, Minneapolis, MN, USA 3628 Reinaldo Munoz, Alexandria, NSW, Australia 3627 Paul Lennartz, Bartlett, IL, USA Save The Sharks, Save The World. 3626 Jason Boyd, London, ON, Canada That this is allowed in the world today is simply dispicable and goes to show how wasteful a species we really are. 3625 Eugenia Macgill Esselstyn, Seattle, WA, USA 3624 Angela Monique Marnett, Navarre, FL, USA 3623 Martin Smith, Ascot, Berkshire, UK 3622 Phillip Heppleston, Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK Thank you Westchester. Hope you are successful, someone has to start the ball rolling. This has to stop, for all our sakes. 3621 Nathan Craig, Milan, IN, USA The shark fin industry is going kill all the sharks and will break the local food chain. 3620 Not publicly disclosed, Wollongong, NSW, Australia Shark finning is a cruel and disgusting act that should be illegal EVERYWHERE, for the sake of future shark population! 3619 Jason Lorch, Sydney, NSW, Australia 3618 Fanch Billois, St Philibert, France 3617 Not publicly disclosed, Geneva, Switzerland 3616 Kim R Lambert, Orillia, ON, Canada STOP STOP STOP the shark slaughter! 3615 Not publicly disclosed, Ankeny, IA, USA 3614 Angela Frizzell, Collinsville, IL, USA 3613 Dakota Valerie Savo, Palm Bay, FL, USA Take it from me, I am PETRIFIED of sharks....or used to be. I walked into class 2 days ago to see a huge screen saying "Sharkwater" on it and started freaking out cause I'm so scared of sharks. 2 days later I am completely changed of heart. I want to save sharks, LEAVE THEM ALONE! Seriously, we only have like 10% left, 5 years from now you're not gonna have any money from the fins anyway, quit hunting and leave the animals alone. It's not even cool, and your never going to get a girlfriend. Please, listen. Take it from me, I KNOW how scary and nasty you can think a shark is. 2 days ago, if I saw a picture of a shark, I'd pretty much start crying, until I watched Sharkwater in my marine biology class. But anyways, please, look deep into your heart for this one. You have to look at the big picture. We only have like 10% of sharks left in the oceans, and 5 years from now, your not going to be sitting on any sharks or shark fins because you've already killed them all. Then everyone is going to blame it on you, you'll be poor, and your grandchildren will never even get to be afraid of sharks. So quit being stubborn and stop doing this. Is this how you really want the shark extinction story to go down? Because some people in some place wanted their fins? Kind of embarrassing for you. So shut up and listen when I tell you, you have to stop. Nevertheless, your gonna be the one who's sitting on a big bag of hay for your bed because your going to be poor, cause guess what? NO MORE SHARKS TO SELL. Oh no! You're gonna go find another animal to kill off, and your going to go down in the history books as an extinctioner, because there's not going to be any animals left except for the ones at the zoo. 3612 Joan Masterson, Durbanville, Western Cape, South Africa Over 70 million sharks are being killed all over the world for their fins (which have no nutritional value at all) to make fin soup. This is an atrocity that has to stop! Canada takes pride in killing over 250 000 baby seals in their annual seal hunt every year. They claim that the seals have become more and more every year and that culling them to preserve their existence is the humane thing to do....Does someone see the connection here? The seal growth was being organized by their natural enemy which is the shark. Due to less and less sharks being around to maintain the ecology, the seal population growth is getting out of hand. So are many other things because of man's greed and the only thing the Canadians can think of is killing the baby seals in an inhumane manner by clubbing them to death instead of trying to find a solution that will fix the problem in hand: stop the shark hunts so that the natural processes in the sea can go their course again. It is man's interference and greed in everything that is causing all the destruction in the world. It is time we acknowledge our part in this destruction and take the first step towards and mend nature by starting to protect our sharks. 3611 Not publicly disclosed, Slagelse, Region Sjaelland, Denmark 3610 Karina Soerensen, Slagelse, Region Sjaelland, Denmark 3609 Not publicly disclosed, Sarnia, ON, Canada 3608 Vince Imbrogno, Hamilton, ON, Canada 3607 Edie Shaw, Toronto, ON, Canada I implore Westchester County to support this ban of shark fin products. In setting a precedent in North America, this important action will hopefully be the beginning of the banning of all shark products throughout the world, in order to save this important species and all life in the ocean. 3606 Sadie Steel, Denbigh, Denbighshire, North Wales 3605 Not publicly disclosed, St Raphal, Var, France 3604 Russell McKenna, Perth, WA, Australia Ban shark products now. Ridiculous in our day and age. 3603 Not publicly disclosed, Surrey, BC, Canada 3602 Not publicly disclosed, Clarkston, GA, USA 3601 Not publicly disclosed, Sydney, NSW, Australia 3600 Not publicly disclosed, Seattle, WA, USA 3599 Mary Brooks, Somerset, KY, USA 3598 Barbara Umnik, Zrece, Slovenia, Slovenia 3597 Casey Quinn, Miami, QLD, Australia 3596 Eric Walton, Brookhaven, PA, USA Products such as those should be banned everywhere. 3595 Sarah Perkins, Kanata, ON, Canada 3594 Jessa Kellogg, Somerville, MA, USA 3593 Julie Elizabeth Adams, Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada 3592 Esmee Whitaker, Burnaby, BC, Canada 3591 Not publicly disclosed, Calgary, Alberta, Canada 3590 Not publicly disclosed, Boston, MA, USA 3589 Olivier Kancel, Bouillante, France 3588 Pamela Anne Dugal, Windsor, ON, Canada Please send any petitions my way to sign and I will forward them on. Thanks to all who care and I pray this senseless killing stops! 3587 Sophie Aubry, Milton, ON, Canada 3586 Holger Stripf, Sydney, NSW, Australia 3585 Tyler Krawchuk, Ajax, ON, Canada 3584 Jordane Muller, Strasbourg, France 3583 Not publicly disclosed, Paris, IDF, France 3582 Not publicly disclosed, Bracieux, France 3581 Not publicly disclosed, Burlington, ON, Canada 3580 Not publicly disclosed, Ottawa, ON, Canada 3579 Not publicly disclosed, Austin, TX, USA 3578 Sharon Bland, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, UK 3577 Ella Young, Vancouver, BC, Canada Please be responsible to ban all shark fin products - it's absolutely ridiculous that these customs are around despite solid science that they don't work! Sharks should not be dying for this useless reason. 3576 Sarah Stead, Auckland, New Zealand 3575 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, ON, Canada 3574 Samantha Aubrey Rose Suzor, Lakeshore, ON, Canada 3573 La Rocque Jean-Francois, Montreal, Quebec, Canada Poudre a bander !!! 3572 Melissa Chatten, Trenton, ON, Canada The shark fin industry is a butchery to our oceans. Thousands of sharks are captured, de-finned, and then thrown back into the ocean to die slowly, terribly, taking hours or days to final die. The soup which is made from their fins does not feed the hungry, nor cure any diseases. Its only use is as a status symbol to the rich. The fins add no flavour to the soup, nor any nutritional value. Sharks are living, breathing, feeling, animals who suffer greatly at the expense of giving some rich people more money and bragging rights. The import and export of shark fin products must be stopped every where around the world now. If we wait any longer it will be too late. When the various shark species dies, a part of our oceans will die with them, and we will be the poorer for it. 3571 Luke Preston, Sydney, NSW, Australia 3570 Not publicly disclosed, Barrie, ON, Canada Can u please leave these innocent creatures alone? 3569 Lizzy Ellison, London, UK There is no excuse for this cruel and barbaric act. It is ignorance and lack of education that allows the exploitation of sharks for their fins to continue. I feel ashamed to be part of this human race as we continue to display our success at destroying this planet 3568 Victoria Caroline Braun, Bowmanville, New Brunswick, Canada I recently watched Sharkwater, it was horrible, it made me so angry. Whoever could do that just for money is real messed up, like seriously get a real job. 3567 Jon Buckner, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England It is ridiculous in this day and age to think that it is acceptable to kill an endangered species...and for a bowl of soup!! 3566 Lucy Houchen, Calgary, Alberta, Canada 3565 David Austin, Burleigh Heads, QLD, Australia What a responsible and admirable example of our need to 'evolve from ignorance' this would be to the rest of the world. David. 3563 Not publicly disclosed, Oshawa, ON, Canada 3562 Melodie McKee, Calgary, Alberta, Canada 3561 Not publicly disclosed, Vancouver, BC, Canada 3560 Jovan Oscar Rodriguez, Miami, FL, USA Sharks must be saved. Sharks are not bad they are good. SHARKS RULE!!!! Sharks are my favorite animals. 3559 Alison Clark, West Vancouver, BC, Canada Drying up consumer demands for these products seems the most effective way of saving the sharks. Good for the County of Westchester for trying to make a difference! 3558 Renee Dwyer, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada 3557 Kim Bradley, Surrey, BC, Canada Good job Westchester! You're setting an enviro-example for the whole planet! 3556 Mark James Thomson, Vancouver, BC, Canada I just wrote a letter to the mayor of Vancouver supporting this very idea! I strongly encourage you to go ahead with banning shark products from your community - this is one thing we can all live without - and an opportunity for Westchester to shine as an environmental leader in this area for the world! 3555 Maxime Tremblay, Quebec, Quebec, Canada People should be aware of this. 3554 Lisa Moore, Sydney, NSW, Australia STOP KILLING ALL OF THE SHARKS! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD THESE DAYS? 3553 Lawrence Mayles, Gabriola Island, BC, Canada Humans need to learn more respect and consideration for other beings that live here; humanity please wake up. 3552 Rob Evans, Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada Please save the sharks! 3551 Not publicly disclosed, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada 3550 Oriane Leperlier, Jonquiere, Quebec, Canada I feel guilty for being human because of this shark extermination... 3549 Rebecca Stache, Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany 3548 Yuniar Rahma, Surabaya, Indonesia Thanks for the law, hope more country have the same law. 3547 Drew Price, Colorado Springs, CO, USA 3546 Not publicly disclosed, Courtice, ON, Canada 3545 Jeff Crow, Acton, ON, Canada 3544 Dawn Winn, Hartlepool, Cleveland, England 3543 Glen William Campbell, Perth, WA, Australia Please ban and do not support this horrid, pointless and cruel industry. 3542 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, ON, Canada 3541 Marcia McDuffie, El Sobrante , CA, USA 3540 Adam Boother, Banbury, Oxfordshire, England Stop shark finning, you wouldn't like having your arms cut off then being thrown back into the sea to die a painful death. I wish that could happen to you, your a load of inhumane scum. 3539 Craig Power, Nanaimo, BC, Canada 3538 Jessica Keltie, Sydney, NSW, Australia 3537 Kevin Bowey, Estevan, Sask, Canada 3536 Not publicly disclosed, Brisbane, QLD, Australia 3535 Gareth Jordan, Armstrong, BC, Canada 3534 Lee Vallance, Frankston, Victoria, Australia 3533 Not publicly disclosed, Laval, Quebec, Canada 3532 Not publicly disclosed, Adeje, S/C de Tenerife, Espaa 3531 Nafeesa Esmail, Montreal, Quebec, Canada 3530 Angela Carson, Calgary, Alberta, Canada Although I am not a Westchester resident, I believe that this is a global problem! Please, ban shark fin products in Westchester,NY. I was thinking of visiting New York one day, however, until the ban is in place, I will not consider it as a vacation destination. Thank you for saving the shark! 3529 Kaitlin Anne Kostyra, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada To change the ways of the world, we must first start with education. Age old traditions that endanger species need to be modified, and our governments need to be honest and true. 3528 Ian Brierley, Parksville, BC, Canada We need to stop the killing of any sea life as it's our job to protect for the next generation and it's not our right just use and abuse everything until it's gone. 3527 Tais Rodrigues da Silva, Sao Vicente, Sao Paulo, Brazil 3526 Geoffrey Coquerelle, Roubaix, Lille, France 3525 Carol Jennings, Brantford, ON, Canada 3524 Turcotte Nadia, Rimouski, Quebec, Canada 3523 Brent Andrew Guralski, Tillsonburg, ON, Canada 3522 Roula Flilice, Barrie, ON, Canada 3521 Michael p Banovz, Edwardsville, IL, USA Shark finning is senseless; the fins serve no health purposes to anyone. Sharks need help, help to save the ecosystem and us in it. 3520 Guillermo Moreno, Hong Kong, 3519 Samantha Lee Sharratt, Calgary, Alberta, Canada 3518 Kristy Manuel, Scarborough, ON, Canada 3517 Andre Clarke, New York, NY, USA 3516 Robyn de Montreuil, Pritchard, BC, Canada I don't understand the point in killing so many animals for something that tastes like nothing? I understand cultures are different but this is pretty ignorant of the ecosystem and how everything relies one each other. Wrecking the population of sharks will be wrecking everything in return! 3515 Not publicly disclosed, Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil 3514 Not publicly disclosed, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada 3513 Not publicly disclosed, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada 3512 Tim Deans, Corindi Beach, NSW, Australia 3511 Tony Daroczy, Maroubra, NSW, Australia 3510 Mark L Harman, Buford, GA, USA I think this ban is a momentous decision. Please send a statement to the world that we need these beautiful creatures in our oceans and that atavistic and barbaric acts such as finning cannot be tolerated in a civilized world. 3509 Not publicly disclosed, Wynndel, BC, Canada 3508 Not publicly disclosed, Grand Barachois, New Brunswick, Canada 3507 Monika Kristiansen, Oslo, Akershus, Norway 3506 Adam Mintz, Toronto, ON, Canada 3505 Joanne M Jensen, Apopka, FL, USA I had no idea that the United States allowed shark fin soup. I am shocked and outraged. I thought the American public was smarter than that. I guess not! 3504 Not publicly disclosed, Sydney, NSW, Australia Although not from your country, the issue of over fishing sharks affects the world's marine ecosystems. I support this measure and would encourage other states and/or County's in the USA to do the same. 3503 Charles Kueh Heng Hock, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia Please ban shark killing. 3502 Crystal lee Wouters, Calgary, Alberta, Canada I am still crying after watching the horror of shark finning and fishing in "Sharkwater". Please protect these beautiful fish and their young. 3501 Chris Solick, Lacombe, Alberta, Canada 3500 Kavi Huliyappa, Vancouver, BC, Canada Disgusting, another example of economics ruining lives, in this case the shark. 3499 Cameron Unger, Whistler, BC, Canada 3498 Blaise Olson, North Vancouver, BC, Canada 3497 Heather Morton, Cochrane, Alberta, Canada Are people really that stupid? 3496 Dominic Pasquarella, Toronto, ON, Canada 3495 Alexandrina Zuzu Shannon, Claremont, ON, Canada 3494 Benn Cross, Miami, FL, USA 3493 Montana Headford, Sharon, ON, Canada SAVE THE SHARKS. 3492 Ivy Jonassen, Thunder Bay, ON, Canada 3491 Daniella Malaquias, Toronto, ON, Canada You do not know where these shark fins are coming from. They are most likely fished illegally, and you are supporting it. The concept of blood diamonds from Africa are the same of fishing for shark fin. In the end a life was sacrificed for someones enjoyment. It is wrong and no ones life, human or animal should be thought of as lesser. 3490 Helene Villedary, Bouillante, Guadeloupe, France 3489 Not publicly disclosed, Thornhill, ON, Canada 3488 Ekkehard Ehrenstein, Berlin, Berlin, Germany Please set a sign against this decadence. 3487 Marcela Pizarro, Lynwood, CA, USA 3486 Jason R Lister, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada 3485 Not publicly disclosed, Montreal, Quebec, Canada 3484 Ester Jeronimo, Port Coquitlam, BC, Canada 3483 H Nelson, Calgary, Alberta, Canada 3482 Chris MacLennan, Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada 3481 Alana Mair, Calgary, Alberta, Canada There is still so much we need to learn about these magnificant creatures- we need to protect them! 3480 Triquet Pauline, Montpellier, Herault, France 3479 Christophe Caso, Tempe, AZ, USA It is a matter of dignity. 3478 Cristina Gagliese, Toronto, ON, Canada 3477 Bernd Fritsch, Dortmund, NRW, Germany Stop killing sharks. Show the world that we are not uncontrolled primates that abuse their planet. 3476 Emma Jennings, Brantford, ON, Canada 3475 Lisa Beare, Vancouver, BC, Canada Please help stop the needless fishing of sharks. We need these top predators to ensure the oceans delicate eco system. 3474 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, ON, Canada 3473 Debra Garza, Boca Raton, FL, USA 3472 Patricia Jones Paoletta, Washington, D.C., DC, USA 3471 Jennifer O'Brien, Forest Hills, NY, USA Please legislate in favor of sharks and oppose illegal shark finning and poaching. This effects the sharks, our oceans, our earth and our humanity. Please help. 3470 Tina Salmon, Canberra, ACT, Australia 3469 Jeremy Barber, Val de Reuil, Haute Normandie, France This law could be a first step for other localities to pass a similar law. This cultural tradition has become a mark of luxury for people who can afford it. People are just interested by the money. Nowadays too many people are interested by shark fin soup and the population of sharks are declining very rapidly. We must do something to stop that. 3468 Not publicly disclosed, Riverside, CA, USA 3467 Rebecca Anna Johnston, London, UK 3466 Not publicly disclosed, Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany 3465 Not publicly disclosed, Limhamn, Skane, Sweden 3464 Not publicly disclosed, Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany 3463 Luis Alberto Bermejo, Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana 3462 Dwayne Hickman, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia 3461 Not publicly disclosed, Caen, Calvados, France 3460 Andy Dunn, Shrewsbury, UK 3459 Heather Bishop, Chesterfield, MI, USA 3458 Florimond Brice, Aubagne, France 3457 Not publicly disclosed, Singapore 3456 Aymeric Bein, La Rochelle, Vosges, France 3455 Gregory Archer, Kerava, SG, Finland 3454 Joakim Leroy, Stra Mtervik, Vrmland, Sverige 3453 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, ON, Canada 3452 Mike Utsal, Toronto, ON, Canada 3451 Not publicly disclosed, Shawinigan, Quebec, Canada 3450 Not publicly disclosed, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada 3449 Not publicly disclosed, Sault Ste. Saving the worlds shark population is, in my opinion, just an example of the hope we need to display in order to have any chance of saving our environment on a global level. We must take action now to save sharks before its too late. 3438 Not publicly disclosed, Sydney, NSW, Australia 3437 Not publicly disclosed, Miami, FL, USA 3436 Not publicly disclosed, Brooklyn, NY, USA 3435 Not publicly disclosed, Chateauguay, Quebec, Canada 3434 Murielle Formisyn, le Lonzac, Corrze (19), France 3433 James Catterall, Manchester, UK 3432 Jack Kelly, Elermore Vale, NSW, Australia Banning shark fin products is just the begining but it is a start we can only hope that other states and countries can do the same 3431 Not publicly disclosed, Castro Valley, CA, USA 3430 Not publicly disclosed, Dalkeith, ON, Canada 3429 Lucy Richards, London, England Stop the cruelty to sharks. 3428 Alex Eagle, London, England Stop the killing of the shark. 3427 Freyja Lina Anderberg, Perth, Western Australia, Australia 3426 Mark Griffiths, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Surely in this day and age we can synthesize a suitable alternative to actual shark fin that will satisfy the soup eaters of Asia? 3425 Suzanne Willis, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 3424 Cathy Hoare, Kitchener, ON, Canada 3423 Marli Anderson, Vancouver, BC, Canada To ensure the continuation of life on the planet we need to use our advantage, as humans, to protect and sustain our world. Sharks are a part of our eco-system and no one should purchase shark fin products. 3422 Not publicly disclosed, North Vancouver, BC, Canada 3421 Not publicly disclosed, Port Moody, BC, Canada 3420 David Postle, Calgary, Alberta, Canada 3419 Noelle Di Gregorio, Toronto, ON, Canada 3418 Katrina Di Gregorio, Toronto, ON, Canada 3417 Carrie Lee, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada 3416 Dennis Sippach, Offenbach, Hessen, Germany Please, support the ban of the shark fin products. Thank you! 3415 Julie Schaefer, Odense, Fyn, Denmark 3414 Eric C Byron, Brooklyn, NY, USA This is an opportunity for local government to do the Right Thing AND the Most Popular Thing at the same time. With shark populations declining, illegal finning operations worldwide and the potential health hazards to human consumption of shark fin soup and other shark-based products I believe this legislation is necessary. Thank You 3413 Dan Schmahl, Tallahassee, FL, USA 3412 Nicola Caroline Murphy, Fareham, Hampshire, UK This is extremely important. Please take time to consider. Thank You. 3411 Jason Gren, Winnipeg, MB, Canada 3410 Not publicly disclosed, San Antonio, TX, USA 3409 Debra Moore, Claremont, ON, Canada 3408 Diana Buitrago, North Miami Beach, FL, USA 3407 Not publicly disclosed, Bel Air, MD, USA 3406 Not publicly disclosed, Barton Hill, Bristol, England 3405 Not publicly disclosed, Montreal, Quebec, Canada No more shark products!! We are ruining the earth by ruining our shark species, I urge you to watch a shark be teared apart while still alive and then thrown back into the ocean without its fins. The shark suffocates to death underwater and dies in vain. 3404 Amy Fedrigo, Toronto, ON, Canada 3403 Jordan Dell, Kahnawake, Quebec, Canada Just recently I saw the movie Sharkwater and it made me feel really bad, seeing all those sharks dying, I think its sad. People are only doing it for the money. Its just like someone cutting some random persons arms and legs off and throwing them into the water for them to drown. Some people say that shark fin soup will help to prevent cancers, but its not true, I think it is an excuse to kill them for money. Sure there have been some shark attacks but it doesn't mean they should be wiped out. It's very wrong and this horrible thing needs to stop. 3402 Adam Robertson, Kahnawake, Quebec, Canada 3401 Aronhiatekha Jacobs, Kahnawake, Quebec, Canada 3400 Hannah Rachel Gilbert, Orange Village, OH, USA 3399 Laura Goddard, Singapore 3398 Seren Belle, Cairns, QLD, Australia Let us act in the interests of all, current and future life on Earth and take the reins on behalf of those who are too ignorant and unaware to do the right thing. NO MORE Murder of Sharks. Please. 3397 Cheryl Brown, Ottawa, ON, Canada 3396 Janna Bennett, Calgary, Alberta, Canada Please stop the shark finning. The sharks are an important part of the ecosystem on earth. Their demise will compromise the entire planet's oxygen supply. Don't support the inhumane and reckless behavior of people who profit from shark finning. It behooves me that we have become judge & jury of the world without thought or remorse to what may happen to this world in the future. Stop the killings, stop the finning, stop the long lining. It is the obligation of those with government power to look after ALL that reside in the constituencies. It is the people that voted you into office that you are obligated to. Thank you for the next generation. This is not a question of nationality, sir. Morality and intelligence have no color, no religion, no flag. Everybody can be part of the solution for we are all sharing this world, not always in an equitable way, but you and I have more in common than some may think we have. Sharks play a vital role in our ecosystems and enhance the environments in which they live. Our world and seas would be a much poorer world without them. They need protecting and that needs to happen immediately. We owe it to sharks and also to our children and future generations to conserve and to protect both sharks and our rich seas, so that they too can appreciate and treasure this beautiful underwater world. Not in zoos, museums or magazines and photos, but in the wild. Why are we killing them? Ask yourself that. The only answers you'll get are from humans' greed. We kill them out of fear and for food. But haven't we got enough food already? Humans are getting greedier and wildlife is paying for it. I may be young, but I know what's wrong and what's right, and hunting sharks is like murder, except no one gets arrested. Let the future generations admire us and think of what GOOD we did, instead of them thinking of us as ruthless, heartless, consumers. Please stop supporting the shark finning industry, people will want LIFE on this planet, NOT money! Why allow things like this that are harmful to ourselves as well as nature? 2684 Daina Scarola, Lawrencetown, NS, Canada Sharks are on the verge of extinction, which means our own extinction. Without sharks controlling the food chain of our oceans, there would be chaos, diminishing oxygen and life on earth as we know it. This is seriously scary stuff, folks. 2683 Not publicly disclosed, Lasalle, Quebec, Canada I'd like to save the sharks. 2680 Jennifer Albert, Ajax, Ontario, Canada Shark finning is a barbaric practice. Shocking... 2657 Bonnie Snider, Jacksonville, FL, USA Stop shark finning! We need an international regulation to stop that practice and many other fishing techniques related to it like long lines. 2655 Melanie Rausch, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada Sharks are a critical part of marine ecosystems. 2653 Josha Noel Bharadwa, Kanata, Ontario, Canada Save Sharks! 2652 Not publicly disclosed, Santos, So Paulo, Brazil Let's ban shark fin products NOW! 2648 Not publicly disclosed, Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada Save the sharks! 2642 Kate MacDonald, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada This is horrific! SAVE THE SHARKS! 2634 Not publicly disclosed, Montreal, Quebec, Canada Ban shark fin products in Westchester. 2628 Kristine Mariana Longer, Burlington, Ontario, Canada Sharks are extremely important to humans because they are a big help in providing phytoplankton (aka: what produces most of the oxygen we breathe). Most fish that are meals to the sharks consume phytoplankton. With the little amount of sharks we have left, there are way more fish able to consume what produces the very oxygen that we are breathing. This is one of the many reasons I fully support the banning of selling shark fins, and shark finning in general. 2622 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Please stop the brutality of shark finning. 2619 Simone Nordstrom, Chestermere, Alberta, Canada What you consume should not indicate your status in life. 2618 Brenda Sponchia, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada I fully support all efforts to stop all shark fishing and shark sales. 2612 Not publicly disclosed, Nepean, Ontario, Canada We share the blame if we don't voice the shame! STOP SHARK FISHING - barbaric, primitive & uneducated. 2611 Tina Adams, Toronto, Ontario, Canada BAN SHARK FINNING! 2609 Francesca Payne, Bristol, Bristol, UK Please stop raping the earth for greed. 2603 Chad Wilson, Calgary, Alberta, Canada Please ban shark fin products now. 2601 Stephanie Pawlikowski, Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada I am more than concerned about the effect that fishing sharks to low numbers will have on the human race's ability to exist on this planet. I must also voice my disgust about the barbaric way and conditions that these "gods of the sea" are being slaughtered. When will we realize that all the money in the world cannot and will not deliver us our precious breath, oxygen? Only nature can do that. Please do everything in your power to sustain the harmony between sharks and humans. Stop the madness. Start the love healing bond. 2595 Stephanie Peters, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Please ban this barbaric treatment of sharks. I was appalled to learn of this practice. I cannot believe that we even serve this soup in the US, in a country that stands against cruelty to animals. Shame on those the support this practice! 2593 Indira Gomes, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sharks are critical in holding the balance of our planet's delicate ecosystem. Without them, phytoplankton will dwindle and carbon dioxide will soar. Please be one of the few with the integrity to take a monumental stance in banning shark fishing. 2580 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, Ontario, Canada It is cruel and unnecessary! 2574 Tiffany Barlow, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada Awesome dudes! Go on like that. I support it very much! 2566 Rob Lupton, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada We need to stop before it's too late. 2565 Justin L Martin, Welland, Ontario, Canada Thank you to those who are doing what they can to save sharks. Please continue to spread awareness. 2563 Christine Holder, Bradshaw, Bolton, Greater Manchester, UK PLEASE BAN SHARK FIN PRODUCTS! 2562 Lesley Long, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada Watch "Sharkwater"....Please save our planet and the sharks. 2561 Laurie Ann Tripp, Greenfield Park, Quebec, Canada STOP THE KILLING! Stop the hate! Let's change the world by starting today! 2559 Justin Michael Prince, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Help reduce/ban shark finning in international waters, because although there are people out there wanting and trying to save sharks, we may be too late by the time we have achieved the ability to make a difference. The time to act is now!! 2558 Michael Pelosi, Toronto, Ontario, Canada The time for action is now. Let the great country of USA lead by example and BAN all shark fin products in Westchester, NY. Unlike other animals, sharks can't be farmed. When they're gone, they're gone for good. This is the year 2008, I think we're smart enough to know this is wrong and cannot continue sustainability. What we do today will echo in eternity, let us save sharks today to ensure a greater tomorrow. 2557 Rob Engels, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada It is great to see an American conscience at work setting an esteemed example for all to follow. Kudos from a Great Lakes neighbour. 2552 Bonnie Schindel, Toronto, Ontario, Canada The miracle cure of shark fin products is a myth. Please stop killing sharks and save our ecosystem before it's too late. 2551 John Attew, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Protecting these awesome animals shouldn't be a choice it should be the LAW. 2546 Not publicly disclosed, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada I fully support the Westchester residents! I'm so happy people are finally realizing what is happening and are stepping up and trying to make a change! 2542 Not publicly disclosed, Brunswick, GA, USA Please set a precedent and sign this into law leading the way for other states to follow. Shark finning is truly one of the most inhumane practices on the planet and will prove to be the most costly. 450 million years of an ecosystem destroyed by pride and greed. 2541 Naomi Harris, Scarborough, Ontario, Canada Please do not support the killing of the most vital animals on this earth. 2539 Shannon Marie Austin, Thornhill, Ontario, Canada I am horrified by the greed of humanity for profit. What we are doing to the planet is unthinkable and has to stop! 2538 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Please act to separate fact from fiction about sharks and their benefit to humans and the world around them. These animals are being hunted to extinction because of a misconception. This is a really heart-breaking way for a species older than any other to be eliminated from this planet. Please help. 2536 Not publicly disclosed, Derby, Derbyshire, UK This is an inhumane practice that will inevitably affect the ecosystem of our oceans. Fins are sawed off while the shark is alive and then dropped back in the ocean to sink and die. These fins are not even used for flavor, but rather texture. This is UNACCEPTABLE. 2532 Daniel Leventhal, Toronto, Ontario, Canada This is a REAL issue and poses a REAL danger to humanity. If we unbalance and lose the plankton populations of the oceans, life itself will cease... at least any life that needs oxygen. 2531 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, Ontario, Canada I strongly urge you to ban the sales of any and all shark fin products. There is no proof of these products helping human beings. Please save the sharks, and if you can not think deeply on what impact it has already caused, then think of saving yourselves. 2528 Not publicly disclosed, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada This is both an environmental and humanitarian issue. 2522 Not publicly disclosed, Brest, Bretagne, France Please protect such wonderful animals! 2520 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Please help end this horrible crime against sharks and life itself. 2517 Chrissy Sherren, Stratford, PEI, Canada Please save the sharks. 2514 Eric Karrandjas, Toronto, Ontario, Canada It's time we wake up and realize what we're doing to our planet's ecosystems. 2513 Marie-Christine Hbert, Otterburn Park, Quebec, Canada We have to stop the senseless killing of millions of sharks. 2499 May Lam, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Please save the sharks! 2498 Velka Laubscher, Bloemfontein, Freestate, South Africa Sharks are not needed for human wellness. This century they are contaminated with mercury. Sharks are need for ocean eco-balance and for Earth's oxygen production. 2494 Not publicly disclosed, Surrey, BC, Canada Be a part of the solution, not part of the problem! 2488 CaroleAnn Leishman, Powell River, BC, Canada Please ban all shark fin products altogether. 2487 Graeme R Pugh, Surrey, BC, Canada Save the sharks please, it's good karma for you and the sharks will be happy too. Win/Win. 2484 Not publicly disclosed, Calgary, Alberta, Canada No sharks = No oxygen! 2478 Not publicly disclosed, Kelowna, BC, Canada Please ban shark fin related products & industry NOW!! 2472 Not publicly disclosed, Ste-Marthe-Sur-Le-Lac, Quebec, Canada Save the sharks, save humanity! 2471 Keith Malek, Brooklyn, NY, USA SAVE THE SHARKS!! 2465 Eric Christopher Loeffler, Pennsville, NJ, USA I urge you to ban all shark products. Sharks are an essential part of our eco-system and are nearing extinction. We must do what we can to protect them, not only as an intelligent and special species (that inhabited the earth long before humans ever did) from the cruel, horrific practice of finning, but also as a means of saving our planet from the detrimental ramifications of losing the top of the ocean's food chain. Thank you so much. 2461 Not publicly disclosed, Cheserex, Vaud, Switzerland This may be the worst thing humanity has ever done to knowingly harm it's own existence! Please protect your sharks! 2457 Nilton Costa, Toronto, ON, Canada Would you like it if someone caught you, cut off your arms and legs and then let you bleed to death? I wouldn't. Stop shark finning!! 2453 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, ON, Canada Please put a stop to this! 2452 Brandon lloyd, Ottawa, ON, Canada Ok, people, I watched the movie "Sharkwater" and it's just cruel how anyone could want to destroy an animal as awesome as a shark. Like where I live, there are sharks. I've seen sharks, I've even swam with sharks and they're so amazing and peaceful if you treat them the same way. 2451 Kika Kuenzle, LaHave, Nova Scotia, Canada Finning of sharks should be banned worldwide! 2449 Calvin Humby, Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand Thanks in advance. Please don't back out. 2444 Candace Woods, Vancouver, BC, Canada I will not ever visit or buy anything from Westchester, NY until you ban shark fin products. 2443 Julien Beltzung, Coolum Beach, Queensland, Australia Please create a long-term solution to saving our sharks! 2441 Not publicly disclosed, Elkridge, MD, USA Shark finning is a truly sick act in so many ways and needs to stop! And it's decimating shark populations to a critical point. This could have horrible effects not only on the oceans, but the entire planet. This needs to stop now. Please, let's do something about it. 2437 Susan Steele, Oshawa, ON, Canada I can't believe that shark fin products are available anywhere in the U.S. Many affluent and well educated Asians live in the U.S. & Canada and I am very distressed that there is a market for such an immoral product. Especially one that serves no purpose except to say, "Look I can afford shark fin." There must be a better status symbol than one that butchers innocent creatures for only their fins. Disgusting!! 2436 Jessica Evans, Victoria, BC, Canada Thank you for trying to save our ecosystem, me and my future kids really appreciate it and support the action.. 2428 Neyla Carballo Fernandez, Pola de Laviana, Asturias, Spain The killing of sharks must stop now! 2424 Rebecca J Maggio, Deep River, ON, Canada It's odd that we have to show support against eating something that is not only tremendously frivolous, but also bad for you. Plus, I don't feel cultural traditions are relevant in this case. Slavery was culturally relevant too, right? Doesn't mean that it was right, does it? 2419 Not publicly disclosed, Toronto, ON, Canada Somebody needs to get this sorted,,, It is a disgrace that people are getting away with ruining our world...! These people are so arrogant and need to be stopped. Ban the sale of shark products now... 2418 Jason Foucault, Ajax, ON, Canada Knowledge is power, a cliche yes, but this does not make it less true. We have shown ourselves capable of compassion and understanding once we have educated on the true nature of a species and its role in the world we share. So it has been displayed with efforts to save the dolphins, whales and seals to name some of the more popular causes of our oceans. Sharks are important to maintain the delicate balance of the oceans ecosystems and deserve the same protection as all animals that have been threatened by man's irresponsibility. 2417 Not publicly disclosed, Dryden, ON, Canada Save the sharks! 2413 David Anthony, Petersham, NSW, Australia THIS NEEDS TO STOP!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!! 2409 Pierre Stephanie, Six Fours les Plages, Region PACA, France Don't keep killing sharks for any reason! It is disgustingly barbaric!!!!!!! 2407 Collin Keith Robertson, Edmonton, AB, Canada Stop the brutal, barbaric killing of sharks by banning shark fin products. You have the power to make a difference. 2403 Brett Kenneth Olson, Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA We should respect all sea life, also sharks! We should protect them, not kill them! 2398 Helen Praem, Broby, Denmark, Denmark Who guards and protect the ocean? Only those who care. We all have a responsibility 2397 Lorna Hirst, Solihull, West Midlands, UK Just help to stop shark finning... 2395 Not publicly disclosed, Glasgow, County Lanarkshire, Scotland, UK I strongly support any law to ban shark finning. Not only are shark species severely endangered worldwide but this method of killing them is murder through torture! It has to be stopped all over the world! 2390 John Langley, New York, NY, USA Pass this Law!!! 2389 Dylan Michael Medlock-Turek, Dobbs Ferry, NY, USA I am thrilled to learn Westchester is the first county in the States to consider a ban on shark fin products. Let us set the bar for other counties and states to own up to our responsibility for our oceans and environment. This ban must get passed for the sake of our least understood ecosystem. 2388 Nick Ian Van Tromp, Hove, East Sussex, UK More than worthy! Far sighted and courageous! Set the example for New York City and other municipalities. Aside from the ethics, sharks are a critical element of the marine ecosystem. 2379 Elaine Hendrix, West Hollywood, CA, USA Please, be the first to show your state's compassion and ban the sale of shark fin products. Your ban will be recognized for years to come as the step to saving these beautiful creatures from cruelty and mass destruction. 2376 Ashley David Rowlands, Thatcham, Berkshire, UK It is high time that everyone on Earth watches "Sharkwater" and pays close attention to the warnings therein. Further killing of sharks will wipe out all other ocean species and ultimately the human race as well. Its time that people began taking action, I hold you all in utmost admiration for beginning the banning of shark fin products, something that should have taken place years ago. Shark fins do not possess any magical properties and add nothing but texture to shark fin soup. These majestic animals are being killed for nothing more than myths and misplaced beliefs. Sorry if they're not cute and cuddly but the fact is the oceans rely on sharks. They keep the balance in this place that all life on earth relies on. (Remember that thing called the web of life you learned about in third grade? Yeah it's not bull****) Yeah life on earth...that means us. If you want your children to be able to breath (we get 70% of our oxygen from the ocean), stop supporting the decimation of our oceans. They never attack us intentionally Once sharks bite humans they spit us out because they know we cant supply what they need. They don't live to die they live to swim in the majestic oceans. 2152 Not publicly disclosed, Montreal, Quebec, Canada I am extremely concerned about the slaughter of 100 million sharks a year. I was shocked after watching 'Sharkwater'. I am convinced that saving the shark is a cornerstone of saving the planet, since they are at the top of the food chain, their destruction will lead to huge depletions in plankton, which is our planets main way to oxygenate the air and remove carbon dioxide. The wasteful trade in shark fin soup upsets me greatly and I would be extremely impressed if this soup was banned, it could encourage other countries to do the same. 2144 Tim Nicol, Perth, WA, Australia The shark fin industry leads to decimation of shark populations and this damages the marine environment, potentially leading to ecological collapse. Also, the cruel practice of finning and releasing live sharks must be stopped. One small action can make big things happen. 2114 Jessica Urquhart, White Rock, BC, Canada The killing of sharks for only their fins is a wasteful and abhorrent practice. 2111 Michael Sackar, Chicago, IL, USA I think it is appalling that this hideous practice is permitted in this country or anywhere on earth. I applaud the legislators for preparing this ban and hope any governmental entity in this country in whose jurisdiction this practice is not banned will follow suit. I, for one, will never knowingly support a business that has anything to do with the shark fin trade in any way, shape or form. 2103 Lindsay Elizabeth Alger, Montreal, Quebec, Canada Shark finning is a disgraceful practice! We need to realize that the one thing that we fear the most is the one thing we can't live without. Those who are killing them think that they're doing a favor for us but really they're just helping destroy the Earth. So I'm going to do everything I can to help save sharks. 1951 Nicola Banks, Tillicoultry, Clackmannanshire, Scotland I commend you for considering the banning of all "shark" products. Please adopt the legislation and lead the world in this regard! 1946 Jason Sperling, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Finning is a wasteful practice. If you don't care about sharks maybe you could think about the starving people all over the world who suffer as all that shark meat gets tossed back into the sea. Just do it. 1868 Not publicly disclosed, Jamaica By banning this useless overhyped destructive product you will be doing your small share to save our global aquatic environment which needs your help desperately. 1866 Nathalie Zenny, Kingston, Jamaica Shark fin is a very interesting food choice. Because it is commonly used in soup only for texture there really is no need for it. You can use something else like noodles or jello. This would save many millions of sharks in this world. It makes no sense to be using it at all. 1863 Not publicly disclosed, Winlaw, Canada Thank-you for taking this important step in saving sharks, protecting human health and ultimately the planet as we know know what a vital role they play in maintaining the balance in the oceans upon which we depend. 1862 Kerri Blair Ban sharkfin products. 1859 Brett Kenneth Olson, Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA SharkWater. Take a stand and be strong. 1783 Darren Lee Boxer, Port Talbot, West Glamorgan, UK It is so disturbing that such a thing can go on for the purpose of money and profit. World governments should be absolutely ashamed for allowing any type of shark finning in their waters. It's disgusting. I'm sad for the sharks and for the mistakes we as a human race are making. 1776 Catherine Anne Crane, Santa Cruz, CA, USA Why would anyone destroy & waste such a magnificent ancient creature & leave it to suffer a slow death after its fin is removed....AND contribute to its extinction?!! 1775 Brandon Paige Shark finning is not sustainable nor ecologicaly sound. 1687 Jason Congdon, Carbondale, CO, USA As a recent graduate of New York University and prior resident of New York City, I am aware of the variety of cultural traditions present in the greater New York Metro Region. While I recognize the inherent right of all peoples to practice their cultural beliefs, it is also the responsibility of state and local authorities to prohibit activities which endanger both individuals and ecosystems. I fully support the Westchester Shark Fin Product Prohibition Law and applaud the individuals who have the courage and foresight to establish it. 1685 Ian Silverstein, Let's hope that this small step can raise awareness about this plight and call for a push to action. 1681 Not publicly disclosed Save the sharks.....It would be great if we had some left so my son could enjoy them!!!!! 1669 Not publicly disclosed By tampering with the oceans delicately balanced food chains by endangering sharks we are putting the whole planet at risk. Sharks play a vital role in the natural order of the ocean that provides the great majority of the oxygen we breathe. Sharks place in the food chain is directly related to the planets oxygen supply. It is imperative that measures for sharks protection are taken now as they mature very slowly. We need to implement all the steps necessary to protect the future of these magnificent creatures, and of our oceans, because our existence relies on it. 1665 Karissa Manning The film Sharkwater had a huge impact on me! I want to do everything I can to save every kind of animal when I have the chance! 1664 Not publicly disclosed I fully support the Westchester ban on shark finning... We should not have the right to empty the seas of all life just because we want more money, and because we are being incredibly selfish. 1610 James Lazar, Auburn, CA, USA I support a ban on shark fins for the following reasons: Shark-finning is horribly cruel. Shark meat contains toxic levels of mercury. 1608 Brett Heinrichs, Longmont, CO, USA Shark fin products should be completely banned. Without a ban, the world’s sharks will be completely decimated. 1607 Marilyn Glasgow Please pass this prohibition law on shark fins. Pechir When are we all going to wake up and realize we can't rape this planet, and rely on hope one day to bring back the balance. We only get one shot at life. Let's give sharks their chance too!! 1545 Jessica Dawn Dunn, Goddard, KS, USA I strongly urge the people of Westchester to support the ban of shark fin product within their jurisdiction. 1542 Not publicly disclosed Please stop killing these beautiful creatures. By killing the sharks you are killing the human race as well. Sharks are need to help keep the oxygen creating ocean species alive. By killing sharks you are contributing to global warming. Please stop this terrible act towards these creatures. 1532 Grant Schlich, Okawville, IL, USA Should be a no brainer. Do what's right for Gods sake! 1531 Courtenay Benoit, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada We need to save our planet, I do not support the extermination of a species. 1528 Not publicly disclosed Love the Sharks 1513 Caroline Idoux, Nouma, New Caledonia Please stop the shark fin products before its to late. Do the right thing. Thank you 1501 Dominique Marie Le Bouteiller, Ornex, France I'm not sure about the cultural tradition bit as it was only the very rich who ate shark fins in the past. If it is seen as a sign of wealth now, then I would also assume that those who choose to eat shark fins experienced a better education than the rest of us. They should therefore be aware of the environmental implications of their actions. Shouldn't they? 1499 Lucas Hillier Support ban of shark fin products in Westchester, NY 1497 Megan Cooze, St. John's, NL, Canada The shark fin industry is an industry that must be shut down! 1487 Brandi N Judd, Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada This is unacceptable and inhumane. We need to act now before it is too late. Our future depends on this. 1485 Lauren Ashley Stop this horrible crime. 1479 Darren Novi This bill must be passed!! It is an outrage what is being done to sharks all over the world!! 1478 Susana Vargas Please for our young stop killing there future. Think about it no sharks no people. mahalo and aloha 1471 Anna Bergalis, Stuart, FL, USA Do the right thing. Enough destruction of sharks 1470 James Rees, Vancouver, BC, Canada Why shark fin soup? Status. Proof that shark fin products promote health? None 1469 Vincent David Grillet, Nancy, France I just seen the film "Sharkwatter". Amazing, good job...I knew it existed, but pictures are painful and governments are insanely weak. It's a shame. I'm sad to see that people are making money with killing animals especially sharks. Revolting!!! Thanks for the information...Good Luck!!! 1468 Clare Chandra Sutherland Stop killing sharks! 1462 Not publicly disclosed, Pontiac, Quebec, Canada Please stop shark fin products. It is cruel and our own survival is at stake. 1461 Jessica Nicole Williams, Pickering, Canada I support the ban of shark fin products because; well look at it this way, someone once said to me, why do they cut of shark fins and put them in soup? They wouldn't cut off someone’s ear and put it in soup that's just cruel so why are they doing it to the sharks? It makes no sense, so like they should stop and even though I don’t particularly like sharks myself doesn’t mean i wont stick up for them because they don’t have a mouth to stick up for themselves. So yeah this should really stop like NOWWW!!! 1460 Annette Victoria Latoszewska, Pickering, Ontario, Canada All I can say is we need a change, and we need it now! 1459 Tatyana Andonova, Shark finning is cruel. How would you like it if I cut a peice of your body off and didn't treat your wound. 1457 Christopher Caci, Santa Barbara, CA, USA There is no excuse for the negligence to these species of sharks other than the greed of money. THIS MUST END! 1451 Jonathon Polly Please help end this barbaric practice of shark finning. It is helping to proliferate a myth in China, which causes great suffering to sharks. They are majestic animals, and we need them to survive. 70% of our oxygen supply comes from the ocean. If sharks become extinct, the ocean balance will shift drastically, and our oxygen supply will be compromised. We must support and honor the creatures on this Earth, not use them purely for our benefit. Who are humans to continue raping this Earth without conscience? We consume without need, and cause so much pain in doing so. We must become more conscious. Peter Benchley, who wrote JAWS said "The shark in an updated Jaws could not be the villain; it would have to be written as the victim, for, world-wide, sharks are much more the oppressed than the oppressors." Please help. Thank you, Antonia Salm 1448 Not publicly disclosed, I can't believe what's happening under our noses, this is rediculous and we all have to help! 1446 Brunet Justine Pouzay France SAVE THE WORLD, SAVE THE SHARKS 1444 Vivien Lacoste, La Chapelle sur Erdre, France STOP, laissons les requins tranquilles... 1440 Becky Wilson, A terrific first step! Let's hope the whole world follows and bans this horrific practice. 1434 Not publicly disclosed, Blandford Forum, Dorset, UK I applaud this effort to lead the way for the rest of the US on shark fin protection. 1430 Elke Jack, Richmond, VA, USA Please enact a law to ban the sale of all shark fin products, including shark fin soup. You would be the first and it is visionary and correct.Let the rest of the world take it's lead from Westchester! 1423 Amy Turner Let's care for every living creature :) 1420 Laetitia De Azevedo, Ostwald, France Please help 1417 Not publicly disclosed, Entzheim, Bas-Rhin, France Please make this milestone decision and know that you have the support of the public. 1409 Not publicly disclosed, France For such a civilized people we mock our achievements by displaying the most barbaric of traits and allowing them to go unchecked! 1403 Not publicly disclosed, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia As a Doctor of Veterinary medicine, I work with these magnificent creatures daily. The magnitude of loss, if we were to eliminate any of these species by fishing, is equal to the impact of acid rain and global warming. Is there a greater crime? Stop the fishing and make a difference on our planet. 1399 Caroline Prout, France Go you good things! Set a sterling example for the rest of the world. 1390 Ragen Groat, Midland, MI, USA As a coastal county, I ask you to set an example for your residents as well as for other coastal areas, in demonstrating awareness of and commitment to the health of your residents and to the welfare of those residing in the waters in the waters at your shore. 1385 James Roger Haviland, Concord, NC, USA 1342 to 1384 collected on paper. Saving biodiversity saves the planet - simple as that! 1376 Susan Struening, Union, NJ, USA This legislation to ban shark fin products is so important for saving the sharks and keeping the earth healthier for humans. We need to educate the world and stop the barbaric slaughtering of sharks! 1370 Twyla Douaire, Harwood, Ontario, Canada There is no need to use any shark products, ban them now! 1369 Dawn Morrison, Tampa, FL, USA Westchester or anywhere else in the world. If we were talking about Westminster or Winchester I would feel the same way: shark fins as a component of the human diet are an unnecessary and decadent luxury that endangers one of the ocean's most precious inhabitants. The world at large (I'm willing to bet) is sickened at reports of sharks having their fins cut off and then thrown back into the water to die miserably. We have surely evolved sufficiently to be able to jettison such primitive and cruel practices.1367 Joseph Arthur Cavanaugh, Key Largo, FL, USA1366 Jennifer Nolan, 1365 Sebastien de Ghellinck, Istanbul, Turkey 1364 Not publicly disclosed, 1363 Not publicly disclosed, 1362 Rita Simes, 1361 Frederic Seror, Cairns, Queensland, Australia 1360 Melanie Leonie Vio, Cairns, Queensland, Australia 1359 James Ashman, London, Essex, 1358 Lisa Santo, Coffs Harbour, NSW, Australia 1357 Justin Blomeley, Cairns, Queensland, Australia We need to act now to save our planet 1356 Tim Whiting, Bellingen, NSW, Australia Stop #@!%ing with nature, Let's leave her alone for 50 years and see what happens 1355 Not publicly disclosed, Switzerland As a grade school teacher, I teach my students to protect and cherish all living creatures, even sharks. Please help me in this endeavor by passing laws banning the sale of all shark fin products. Thank you. 1353 Katrena Pankew, Killing Sharks just for their fins is an inexcusable waste of resources. 1351 R Maca Stop the finning of innocent sharks! This is awful and disgusting! 1350 Lindsay Anne De Vos, Toronto, Ontario, Canada This would be huge. 1348 Julie McKelvey, Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Before you cast a vote in opposition to this proposed law, watch Sharkwater. No one who can claim to be a human being can watch this film and then willing allow the finning of sharks. 1343 Karie Ann Jones, Utica, MI, The killing of any animal is an outrage to our own freedom. 1338 Dominic Poulin, Montreal, Quebec, Canada Please do something right, right now 1336 Laura Urciuoli, New York, NY, Please, SAVE THE SHARKS ! 1332 Not publicly disclosed, Brooklyn, NY, USA I fully support this proposed ban on all shark fin soup. It is great to see action being taken to protect our precious sharks! 1316 Andrea Marta Dobbs, Vancouver BC, Canada Horrid! Sharks are wonderful creatures and we need to save them! 1314 Not publicly disclosed, Glasgow Lanarkshire, Scotland WHAT A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE, FOR ANY LIVING THING.SHAME ON THE KILLERS & SAME ON THE PEOPLE WHO EAT THESE AWESOME CREATURES !! 1307 Suzanna van der Voort, Maastricht, Zuid-Limburg, The Netherlands Do not hesitate no longer, but protect the ocean and their sealife for now and forever. 1306 Chris Corabi, Get in the water and swim with them. Vote with your feet. My partner and I walk out of restaurants if we see it on the menu. It was the cultural tradition of the English, French, Spanish and whoever else to sail the seas and take over countries and convert the natives. Do we still do it? (possibly debatable) 1294 Yliana Rojas, Calgary, Canada I don't currently live in Westchester but I once did and I currently work in White Plains. I would hope that we as intelligent human beings could understand the significance of killing the top predator in an eco-system. Once gone, it is forever. Let\'s be smart about the sharks and not see them go extinct out of neurotic fear- I hear more people die of toaster accidents in a year than shark attacks. You don't see people stop using their toasters. The threat of sharks is something we humans can create vividly, but its inflated. We should learn to respect these fellow creatures and learn how to co-exist. 1283 Not publicly disclosed, Granite City, IL, USA Shark finning is inhumane and barbaric; and anyone who does not see this or chooses to ignore it deserves a lifetime of bad karma! 1280 Hannah Thomas, UK This is not right we need to stop this asap 1278 Kelly Louise Abraham, Canada How barbarick. With all the evidence against the idea that there is any good reason to consume shark fins, why are people so bound and bent on being ruthless and destructive for no reason? Our minds are not as great as we think they are if we can allow such meaningless things like money and status to cloud our morals, and intelligence! 1277 Not publicly disclosed The world we live in today affects the future world and the generations. Save the Sharks! 1275 Gregg Micheal Miller, Azusa, CA, USA I am a diver, and enjoy ALL the fish in the ocean, Including sharks. Killing a fish just for its fins is a sin.Shark fin soup should banned!!!! 1274 Peter Fenninger, Mahopac, NY, USA Westchester County is relied upon by consumers other than residents. I live in a bordering community and my wife is employed in Westchester. I estimate that 70 - 80% of my family's spending is done within Westchester County. We believe strongly enough in this legislation to alter our purchasing habits should nothing positive be done. Peter Fenninger 1273 Alex Schmutz Shark fin products are being falsely advertised and sold as cancer preventive and curing, when cases of cancer have been found in sharks, making this myth, just that, only a myth. Even it that were the case, it wouldn't be worth the annihilation of this wonderful species who control fish population in the sea, and as a result, maintain balance in the marine echo system affecting our planet as a whole. Do something to stop this before it is too late. 1268 Not publicly disclosed, Old Tappan, NJ, USA Please save the shark for our future human nature. The cost of losing one shark is much more expensive than swalling tonnes of shark fin! 1262 Not publicly disclosed, Qubec, Quebec, Canada It's time to do something! 1261 Not publicly disclosed, Rogue River, OR, USA I'm inspired by this very conscious action. 1258 Deanna Walliser, Northampton, PA, USA Sharks have been on earth for 450 million years. We need to do all we can to preserve their place in the biodiversity of the oceans. We must do all we can to stop 'finning' and the sale of fins obtained by the mass murder of sharks, before it is too late. 1245 Angela Shaw, Oakland Park, FL, USA Stop killing the sharks 1242 Brian Shane Spencer, Bloomington, IL, USA When are people going to wake the %#$@^ UP!??! 1241 Blair Niewoehner, I'm glad to see somebody do something right for a change. thanks 1234 Carine Martinez, Tulsa, OK, USA I am an Asian American and I strongly disprove of the tradition that my family members and family friends carry on in the consumption of shark fin soup at formal Chinese dinners. I hope signing this petition will help others realize that the imminent joy that a "delicacy" provides will never make up for the eternal loss of a natural species. 1230 Not publicly disclosed, San diego, CA, USA Millions of sharks each year are killed each year in this barbaric inhumane practice. The time is now to protect our environment and to protect these magnificent creatures for future generations. 1228 Monica Priegues, The world will be shocked by your archaic and short-sighted thinking. Can a modern representative of the people really be so backward in an increasingly environmentally world? 1225 Not publicly disclosed, We need to save the ocean and to do this we need to save the sharks 1221 Robin Yeates, Newmarket, Canada Humans kill around 100 million sharks a year who really are the blood thirsty killers here 1216 Kelly McNulty Please ban shark fin products. How can humans be so ignorant when we are aware that sharks are key species and have so much ecological value that without them, the ocean is dead. Once the ocean dies, what do you think will happen to Earth and human? 1214 Mandy Petersen, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada This is horrible. 1213 David McDougall, It's time to stop killing these animals for their fins! 1210 Lucienne Jacqueline Boogaard, Hengelo, Overjissel, The Netherlands The alleged value of shark fins, apart from the shameful uses of them for economic purposes, is totally ridiculous. The fins are only useful to the sharks from which they are maliciously cut. Do not permit any company that deals in shark fin products to operate in Westchester, NY. I would write the same for any county, city, state, country, continent. Roberta Finke, NY, NY, scuba diver and respecter of the earth and its creatures. 1207 George Schellenger, Port Saint Lucie, FL, USA Thank you! 1206 Dani Pen Please ban all shark fishing immediately throughout the Great Barrier Reef area. Please consider more sustainability, our oceans are being over fished, mismanaged and decimated; please do the right thing and protect sharks, before it's too late! 1205 Christine Kamradt In addition to the health hazards, shark finning is unspeakably cruel, causing a slow and painful death for a shark. If you allow shark fin products, you are complicit in this cruelty. 1202 J B Medina People of power have greater responsibility. Remember that. The Peacemaker wisely instructs them to take their decisions so that they benefit life seven generations from ours. 1189 Neil Bullen, Oshawa, Ontario, Canada 90 % of all the sharks are already gone, no sharks no ecosystem in the ocean, no more human life - get it????? 1188 Sandy Rusch, Shark finning has gone on way to long, we need to continue to pass this on so we can finally stop this and save these awesome creatures. 1185 Alan Rogers, Gateshead, England Please ban shark fin products!!! 1181 Not publicly disclosed, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Cruel. Inhumane. Barbaric. Disgusting. 1178 Chris A Hodge, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada Stop the hunting of endangered species 1176 Not publicly disclosed, The sale of these products supports corruption on the level of drug dealing, the fishing boats that bring in these " fins" ( because that is all they take of these creatures ) into the US, don’t care what they kill in their nets to get it, what little we know about sharks supports that they are needed for the very survival of our oceans. We all learn of the food chain as kids in school, these are your apex predators, what is at the bottom of that chain will effect the very air we need to survive ourselves. Let’s keep our oceans in balance, all for just the price of a bowl of soup. 1170 Dawn Kazanecki Center Moriches, NY, USA I am unaware of any other living being on earth that is capable of such extreme cruelty to other living beings as humans. As a wellknown Canadian author said "the world would be better is humans were removed". 1168 Cheryl McCarron, Forest Hills, NY, USA Great work!We CAN make a difference! 1165 Justine Schultes, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada Arretons le massacre! 1156 Not publicly disclosed, Please stop shark finning! It is a total destruction of the most important link, the top link, in the food chain. If they are destroyed, the consequences are going to be catastrophic. Please, please, stop selling products containing shark fins. The population cannot sustain the slaughter that is going on. If not for yourselves, please do this for the generations of our children who are going to inherit this planet from us. And to date, we have been horrible stewards for them. Thank you. 1151 Jim Nisbet, Every government should be doing the same! 1147 Robert Goodman, Scituate, MA, USA Please stop!!!!!!!!!!!! 1143 Not publicly disclosed, New York, NY, USA I urge you to pass the law banning all shark fin products. This is one of the most foresighted acts in New York government that I have seen. Your leadership in taking steps to recognize and protect against the decimation of shark populations will inspire others to do the same and prevent what will be the irreversible loss of shark species from this planet. Thank you. 1139 Peter Miklautz, With out the sharks in our ocean the rest of the marine life would dwindle away, all because of a misconception that shark and shark fin could stimulate certain functions of "small" minded people, with the hope of feeling better about themselves at the expense of our marine life. I pity you, and all you stand for. What are you to do when all the great creatures in our oceans are gone? who will you turn on next??? 1135 Jamie Lynn Pollack, New York, NY, USA Humans are the ones that labeled sharks as evil. They were not created as haters. Humans kill each other much more frequently than sharks. Sharks and all other marine species, and land for that matter are ones to be taken care of, not tortured. 1127 Sian Paul, Dorking, Surrey, England If this was a dog, you'd be up in arms, what makes a shark any different. They still feel pain and fear. Think about it! 1126 Folkart Schweizer, Murrhardt, Germany We have to save shark life as shark don't eat people but people eat sharks! 1125 Not publicly disclosed, Munich, Bavaria, Germany I dont kill dogs, because they "could" kill me and eat them...! 1124 Friedhelm Grunert Salzkotten, NSW, Germany A disgusting practice. A painful, long-lasting death for a living creature just so we can eat, whilst we could eat vegetables. 1107 Grace Pei Enn Goh, Singapore, Singapore, Singapore PLEASE STOP KILLING SHARKS FOR THEIR FINS. 1103 Adam Russin, New York, NY, USA WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!STOP THE IGNORANCE AND START RESPECTING THE CREATURES THAT HAVE SAFE GUARDED OUR OCEANS FOR HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF YEARS 1090 Paul A. Krupela, San Clemente, CA, USA Please please halt this horrific act. 1081 Not publicly disclosed, Land o Lakes, FL, USA Fishing for sharks for one single product, their fins, is not only morally wrong, it is fiscally absurd. The US will gain only the shortest term financial benefits with most profits going abroad. Secondly, the shark population is not a quickly renewable resource. Please consider the ecological ramifications of shark finning. 1076 Sean F Murphy, Vero Beach, FL, USA After (28) years in the ocean as a diver and Instructor, I have yet to encounter any species of shark that doesn't amaze me, illuminate me and more deserves my full advocacy of protection. 1075 Not publicly disclosed, West Milford, NJ, USA Please protect our seas for the sake of future generations!! 1070 Not publicly disclosed, Wyckoff, NJ, USA Although I'm not a resident of Westchester, I think you have a great opportunity to show leadership and be a force for humane treatment of other living creatures. Thank you. 1067 Denise H Glass, I don't know what it takes but the murder of sharks has got to stop NOW! 1065 Eric Oppel, Casula, NSW, Australia As a chef concerned with sustainable practices, I applaud this effort! 1052 Keith Lindsay Smith, Adelaide, SA, Australia Please ban shark fins and give humans something to be proud of for a change. 1051 Carrie Lisa Davis, Bega Valley, NSW, Australia It is so hard to be human when we do such selfish things. 1050 Dmitry Miroshnikov, Moscow, Russia Just because a food is a delicacy does not give anyone the right to torture a living creature in this way. Stop this barbaric practice now. 1045 Not publicly disclosed, Auckland, New Zealand At last someone is speaking sense. Shark fin products should be banned worldwide and if this can be the beginning of the end to the horror that is shark finning, please show the world we can make a difference. 1039 Kim-Nora Ann Moses, New York, NY, USA Dear Madames and Sirs, This will be a good move, considering that over exploitation of sharks for food and medicines/supplements are negatively impacting an animal that reproduces very slowly. Obviously, shark populations cannot sustain the ravages of human greed. Please ban the sale of all products containing shark derivatives. 1038 Gwendolyn Chambers, Peekskill, NY, Human Beings are so self-centered. We kill whatever we want for any reason we deem necessary, even for the hell-of-it. It's pathetic. I also feel that we in the USA are so ridiculously in love with political correctness that we allow people from other cultures to do whatever they like in our country even if their habits/principles/morals are contrary to our own. The vast majority of Americans do NOT eat shark and I'm sick of our own culture/principles/morals being watered down to suit others. 1035 Tiffany M. Doan, New Britain, CT, USA Westchester will lead the way for other counties. 1034 Rhonda Moniz, Mystic, CT, USA Please, please introduce a ban on shark fin products and shark fin soup before it is too late. Ninety percent of sharks have been decimated. Please help save this species. It is a cruel and barbaric treatment of sharks. They have been around millions of years, I can't believe how totally uncivilized mankind has sunk to. 1031 Society for the Conservation of Marine Mammals Society for the Conservation of Marine Mammals Quickborn Germany About time it is long overdue. 1025 Nicole Lucy Ingram, Auckland, New Zealand Please go ahead with the law against shark products! The sharks are a key part in the oceans' ecosystems, and the killing of sharks affects everyone, even on the other side of the world. 1024 Not publicly disclosed, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Please stop shark fin products in Westchester, NY now. The killing of sharks to obtain the fin products is a cruel way of killing a endangered animal. They cut the fin off and toss the shark, still alive, back into the water to die as it is unable to swim or survive. Sharks are a beautiful, misunderstood, and vital part of the underwater world and are in need of protection. Please take action now before it is to late to help these sharks, and ban shark fin products. Thank you. 1021 Amanda Parisi, San Jose, CA, USA I commend you gentlemen and ladies for taking this stand against a barbaric, mindless waste of an essential species in the oceans of the world. 1018 Not publicly disclosed At last someone with some sense, BAN all shark products, sharks ALIVE are far more better off to enhance the diversity of the seas & for the future & well being of this planet. The legislators of this bill should be recognized & be proud that they have got up off there backsides & done something to start bringing the pointless slaughter of these magnificent creatures back from near future extinction. If not just to say to people we wont sell your shark products, perhaps other descent human beings will follow suit & that industry suffers enough to save any amount of sharks 1 or hundreds of thousands. SAVE THE SHARK 1016 Jan Lesley Wright, Williamstown, Victoria, Australian The undeserved bad reputation sharks have gained does not excuse the brutality of shark finning. 1013 Lindsay Earl Johnson, Chesterton, Indiana, USA It is time to change our very bad attitude involving many cruel acts against these beautiful animals for now and forever. 1011 Annabelle Taubenberger, Schiltigheim, France Just have soup with Chicken broth! 1009 Jeffrey Ho, Australia Please protect sharks. They are so important to our oceans' health, and they need our help. Thank you. 1003 Not publicly disclosed This is appalling and crass commercialism at the expense of precious marine animals lives. Save the Sharks! Extinction is forever! 1001 Maria Borremans, Brussels, Belgium |
