Encourage your company to not serve shark fin soup at events

To many, a corporate banquet may not seem complete without shark's fin soup. Many corporations serve this soup at their events to honor their clients and other guests. It may even be seen as an insult to not serve the soup to special clients.

If the truth about shark fin soup were more broadly known, it would perhaps be seen as an insult to serve it. What company would knowingly serve toxic mercury to its clients and guests? What company would knowingly destroy the ecological balance of the oceans and push the sharks towards extinction on their guest’s behalf?

Increasingly, forward thinking corporate leaders are choosing not to serve shark's fin soup at their affairs. Many of the intelligent and courageous leaders in the Entrepreneurs’ Club have taken the pledge not to eat shark fin soup.

Shark fin soup is a high expense that can grow to a large amount across a company if it is routinely served at dinners and events. At a time when all companies are attempting to reduce expenses, the elimination of shark fin soup could make a positive difference.

If you are a leader in your company, we hope that you have already come to the conclusion that your company would benefit by not serving shark fin soup. Your salespeople could be instructed not to order it at business dinners.

But even if you are not in a position to make such a decision, you could influence the decision. Please educate the management of your company as to why they should no longer serve shark fin soup.

• Send or personally deliver the letter to your employer or President of your company. Respectfully discuss the issue. You may not succeed the first time, but you will have begun a process of education. Give them the Letter to Your Company and the Say 'No' to shark fin soup Brochure.
• If your company agrees, let them know they can download a "Company Banquet Table Card", below, to display on tables to respectfully let their honored guests know of their important decision.
• Attempt to enlist your co-workers to join you on these efforts.
