A puppet show, an animated movie about sharks and a coloring contest are part of a brand new collaboration with Silver Ant animation house aimed at teaching kids about sharks by Shark Savers Malaysia.
The puppet show stars an Oceanic White Tip shark named Julius (from the animated movie Seefood), who appears on stage shouting in pain because a fish hook is stuck to his mouth. He explains that fishermen tried to catch him for shark fin soup, but he would miss his family if he was caught and would die without his fins.
The puppet show is paired with a coloring contest and Silver Ant’s new animated movie Seefoodtravelling throughout Kuala Lumpur for events promoting the film and shark conservation.
Julius was a huge hit with children, who were very receptive to the message to stop eating shark fin soup. Children were shocked and surprised to learn that there are already no more sharks in many parts of the ocean. One very young girl, about 7 years old, shook her head, eyes wide open and whispered “That is terrible…”
Silver Ant reached out to us after seeing our first children’s event at One Utama Shopping Mall, a popular shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur. They asked us to join their roadshow promoting the Malaysian-made Seefood movie to educate kids about shark conservation.
Our first event took place in the upscale Pavilion shopping mall in the busiest part of Kuala Lumpur, with over 300 people including many VIPs, local celebrities, press and media there to hear our message about protecting sharks and saying no to shark fin soup!
Along with these four events in Kuala Lumpur, we were thrilled to reach out to kids with two events in Penang, two in the southern city of Johor Bahru as well as two more children’s events with Voila Publishing throughout Kuala Lumpur.
