Sometimes, we receive emails that immediately brighten our day. We recently received this email from 7th grade teacher Heath Martin in South Florida:
I am a 7th grade integrated science teacher in South Florida (Fort Lauderdale/Miami) and after having viewed the debut of Sharkwater some time ago I was greatly moved. My students were able to see the video this year and wanted to make a difference. They went online and noticed that many restaurants in our area are serving shark fin soup. We are hoping to make a difference and each one of my students (about 105) are writing letters to those businesses and restaurants urging them to take shark fins off the menu. Eventually, I am planning to get the whole school (about 1600 students involved). I am also enclosing a flyer of images in the hopes that the horror will convince some of these people to look into the process of how their fins are obtained. I want to congratulate organizations like Shark Savers for taking a stand against this practice. If you would like to see some samples of their work for your website or other publications I would be happy to send some. The students are very proud of their efforts. We thank you for your continued efforts to educate the public about these misunderstood animals.

We write letters to stop shark consumption and encourage others to write them. But these are among the best we've seen. We can really learn a lot from these students. We hope the restaurateurs they wrote to feel the same way.
Click on the image to the right to read some of the letters. (We had to visually enhance them so that the pencil writing could be readable).
