Due to its unique combination of art, science and generous partners, Art for Sharks Sake, an art gallery collobaration with Miami Beach's Avant Gallery and the shark sculptures of Kevin McHugh, will have a long-lasting impression on the Miami art scene and conservation world.
A portion of funds raised from the stellar opening at Avant Gallery's beautiful location went directly to Shark Savers' programs to protect sharks. Gallery founder and president Dmitry Prut was instrumental in the initial concept for the event and graciously donated everything needed for a one-of-a-kind evening.
Art for Sharks Sake drew a large, diverse crowd of conservation-minded art and shark lovers from South Florida, across the United States and beyond. The night was filled with animated guests toasting an amazing collection of Kevin McHugh’s opulent sharks at the stunning Avant Gallery in Miami Beach.
The gallery gleamed with glittering shark sculptures: An exquisite Pucci-inspired 8’ hammerhead was the center of attention, while a sparkling mako-type shark, encrusted with aurora-borealis Swarovski crystals hung from the ceiling. A large, matte, jet-black, hematite-crystal-encrusted thresher shark was displayed nearby.
Kevin was at the event to speak about how each piece is created and how he became inspired by the beauty of sharks. He hopes to change the way people perceive trophy fish while bringing attention to their dwindling populations. Kevin is especially thrilled to have delved more into shark conservation in the weeks leading up to Art for Sharks Sake, and is looking forward to partnering with Shark Savers for more events.
Tesla Motors also showcased their new electric, high performance Model S sports car at the event. Guests got to test-drive the car, which has zero emissions, and is conservation-friendly, burning no fossil fuels. The Tesla Model S looked remarkably sleek in front of the gallery that evening.
The event received wide media coverage, gaining press in over 35 publications. MIAMI magazine, our media partner kindly hosted a large social media campaign prior to the event. MIAMI magazine is a high-end luxury lifestyle publication that champions the vibrant style and sophistication of the greater Miami area.
