Yoga_in_the_Park_2.jpgWe all know that the practice of yoga supports stress relief and relaxation but did you know that it can also support shark conservation?

Yoga Energy Studio in St. Petersburg, Florida, hosts a monthly event called Yoga in the Park – Salutations to the Sea, which supports ocean initiatives.

“Saving our oceans and sea life are important to us so we started this a few years ago”, Karen Ganley of the Studio said.

At each event, 100% of the proceeds are donated to the charity of their choice; no portion is spent on promotion so they rely heavily on word of mouth and social media.

On December 10th, 2011, the participants met at Flora Wylie Park in the spirit of community and giving back, their first event to benefit sharks. As the guitarist played, the participants enjoyed a yoga class with good karma by the soothing seaside. This peaceful event raised $200 for Shark Savers and we truly appreciate the awesome effort.

Yoga Energy Studios is very active in supporting local and global community causes and we were honored to be chosen for their Yoga in the Park: Salutations to the Sea event and want to thank all of those that participated.

The calming effects of yoga and the ocean is a perfect pairing and it took the ingenuity of those in the greater community to come up with such an amazing way to support our mission to save sharks. Do you have a fun and unique idea about how to raise funds for shark conservation, too? If so, click here to register as a Shark Savers’ fund raiser and help us continue our work to protect sharks!

Namaste and thank you!
