Discover the secrets of our little-known manta populations in Shark Savers’ newest film The Secret World of Mantas and Mobulas, produced as part of the Manta Ray of Hope campaign working to stop the population declines of these vulnerable animals.

The Secret World uses stunning underwater footage of these gentle giants of the sea as a backdrop for sharing the unique biology and captivating behavior of manta and mobula rays. They have been little studied, and their current populations are largely unknown. However mobulids are highly vulnerable to overfishing because of their slow birthrate, producing only a handful of pups over 40 years or more, and are easily caught, due to their tendency to travel in large groups and feed the surface.

The Report on the Global Threat to Manta and Mobula Rays, released earlier this year, has already produced a wave of new conservation initiatives, including contributing important data to support the proposal to protect manta and mobula rays at the meeting of the Convention on the International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) in March, 2013.

Now is the time to learn more about mantas and mobulas, and to take a stand to protect them.
