Lush Cosmetics once again joins Shark Savers on the campaign to ban the shark fin trade and consumption, following our successful collaboration in Hong Kong. The campaign will last a week, beginning August 22. In California, Lush and Shark Savers will work together to increase awareness and support for AB 376, the bill to ban the shark fin trade. In the remainder of the United States and Canada, we will similarly increase awareness of the issue as well as gather petition signatures to support future initiatives to ban the shark fin trade in other states and provinces.
Visit Lush and see their campaign page, here.

Monday, August 15th was an exciting day in Sacramento. Conservation organizations from around California and the nation rallied for “Shark Day” on the capitol north lawn to support the proposed legislation to ban the possession, sale, and trade of shark fins in California. The occasion also marked the public hearing held by the Senate Appropriations Committee.
Powerful witness testimony to the Committee was provided by actress and conservation activist Bo Derek, Shark Savers' Director Sue Chen, and Wild Aid Executive Director Peter Knights. Personal statements of support were also given by all the Shark Day attendees young and old, from all walks of life, some in ties and some in shark suits!!

Shark Savers has launched the Ban the Fin campaign. The purpose of Ban the Fin is to provide tools and a platform for individuals and groups to take a stand and ensure their communities are not contributing to the worldwide decimation of sharks. Individuals and groups could declare their communities to have 'banned the fin', and they can work towards a more significant ban at local and state levels.

This week a shadow is hovering over the usually peaceful little town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal island in the Galapagos archipelago. A fishing boat from Manta (a port on the central coast of Ecuador) has been anchored in the port for a few days and is bearing a sad cargo. The mutilated carcasses of 379 illegally caught sharks are onboard the vessel, which the National Park Galapagos and the Ecuadorian Navy confiscated on July 19th.
