We recognize that sharks are being killed at unsustainable rates, with shark fin soup leading the demand. Tens of millions of sharks are killed annually. All species most prevalent in the shark fin trade have declined dramatically and are now listed as threatened or near threatened with extinction by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.
Because sharks are at the top of the marine food web, they serve a vital purpose to maintain the precious balance of species in the sea. When we deplete shark populations, there are negative and unpredictable ramifications for the entire ocean environment.
It is time for all of us to do our part to rapidly reduce the demand for shark fins. We are proud to join the effort to say: I’m FINished with FINs.
