I have just returned on 7th August from a great diving holiday in the Maldives (my 10th trip there). I was very happy to hear of the ban but this was marred by seeing a reef shark hooked and snagged on the reef. It was early morning and the shark had not been there the day before so it had been hooked by fisherman that night. My guide and I were able to gently approach the shark and set it free.
My thanks to the Maldives for this ban and please make sure that it is rigorously enforced.

Thank you for having the courage to go against the practice of shark finning and fishing. You help to protect the shark but the reality is that you are protecting our planet earth. The extinction of our planet is inevitable without sharks to keep the numbers of the plankton eating ocean creatures from over population. Once again thank you.
