Mary Chipman, Contributing Editor
Mary has been a shark enthusiast ever since her first shark dive in the Bahamas many years ago. Overcoming great fear and trepidation, she allowed herself to be persuaded to participate, but she hung back from the bait crate and the other divers. When Mary turned around, she came face-to-face with a large shark inches behind her, and in that instant of eye contact, realized that all her fears were groundless. Overcome by the shark's beauty and grace, Mary has since eagerly sought out shark encounters.

Mary spent more than 20 years in the software industry as an author, trainer and speaker on Microsoft data platform technologies. She has worked for Morgan Stanley, for her own consulting firm, and for Microsoft Corporation. Along the way she has written several technical books as well as award-winning video courseware. Her current objective as Contributing Editor for Shark Savers is to bring greater awareness to the urgent plight of sharks in the world's oceans.

Mary's interests include diving and travel, neurobiology and cognitive science, database and web technologies, Egyptology, jewelry design and fabrication, Ashtanga yoga, and dance. She lives with her husband Andy Baron in West Palm Beach, FL.
