Education and Outreach: Social Networking

Promoting your efforts to save sharks on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites can be an effective way to gather support for your Ban the Fin initiative. Here are some steps you could take.

  • Invite your friends, family, co-workers and others involved by asking them to support and sign on to your campaign, and by extension, encourage them to sign up to Shark Savers 'join' list and our Facebook page.
  • Keep your page updated and active. Follow the Shark Savers News Feed to stay up-to-date on current shark conservation developments and the Ban the Fin campaign. Post updates to your Facebook page, Twitter account, or other social media. Share your local content on both your campaign page and the Shark Savers Facebook page. If you 'Like' the Shark Savers Facebook page, we can friend you and help spread the word about your campaign.
  • Add other active conservation groups to your "friend" list. Enlist local dive shops, schools, universities and community organizations to expand the reach of your page.

  • Create and promote a petition through Facebook and other social media to generate more signatures from your community. See Support or create a petition to ban the shark fin trade to get started.
  • Contact local dive shops, schools, universities and community organizations to support and sign your petition.
