Been diving in the Raja ampat on numerous occasions and would be very sad to see this unique region devesated by short-term thinking people only interested to only see to their own interests and dont give a shit in nature.

It is extremely important that these animals are protected. The ocean and its inhabitants cannot take the continued exploitation. These animals are worth more alive to the ecosystem and to the poeple and businesses that occupy the surrounding region.
If we don't stop soon, what will be left for our children?

Please stop shark finning. Besides the cruel ways of killing these animals, they are important for any ecosystem. Removing them will impact any system in the long term. Therefor a healthy shark population is important for future and present tourism.

It is a tragedy that so many shark species are killed annually. Many people disagree with this process but unless those who are capable of creating laws to inhibit extreme fishing take action, then we will continue to wipe out the beautiful species we share this world with to the point of extinction. Will we only learn when it is too late?

Radja Ampat, which I have had the pleasure to visit, dive and photograph underwater, is one of the last underwater Edens left on Earth. A recent article in Science journal shows a major extinction event is currently underway that has the potential to be more severe than any others in history. Those in power to protect Radja Ampat have a responsibility to do so for the sake of humanity. Not to do so is criminal and a terrible shame on local government. www.lesleyrochat.com www.aoca.org.za
