Be an advocate for sharks

Being an advocate for sharks can take many dimensions. It starts with being at least somewhat knowledgeable about sharks and their predicament and speaking up where you can. Allow sharks to come up in conversations. You may even find yourself the life of a party. We often find ourselves at a party when somebody asks, 'so, what do you do?'. All you have to do is mention your interest in sharks and the questions may start flying. People are generally very interested in sharks and want to know more.
When you see an article about sharks, take the opportunity to make a comment or write a letter in support of sharks and their conservation.

hey, my name's clara, i've been going to summer school for science for about a week now and it's not been that great. but i have to say, today for ecology, we watched sharkwater, in spite of the food chain. throughout the movie, we were supposed to answer questions. i didn't. i drew pictures, i couldn't help it, i drew sharks being shot, captured by long lines, dragged into boats by steal hooks stabbed through their mouths, and even a person presenting their kill. but that's not all i drew, i drew me swimming with a shark, holding it close, petting it, i drew them swimming freely among eachother, i even drew a shark leaping out of the water happily. but the thing i realized most was, it's true, people have only been looking at things like pandas, bears, tigers and other "cute" land animals, noone cares about the sharks, the whales or even the harmless whale shark... IT DOESN'T EVEN HAVE TEETH! i also think this whole 'shark fin soup' thing is bullshit, sorry for the swear but really, who are we kidding, people really think eating the fin is going to help you be more immune to disease? yeh, sharks do have a few immunities to stuff we don't, but we aren't the same! hell they don't come on land and catch us for our arms and legs, but still we go out hunting them for what, fins to keep us healthy? that's freakin' ridiculous! as it said in the movie, drugs, road crashes, PEOPLE, and even sode pop machines kill more people then sharks. sharks kill about 5 people a year, when they don't even eat them, they mistaken them as seals, and nip them to see what they are, due to the large mouths and so many teeth, humans usually bleed to death before we can reach shore. it has now become my dream to swim with sharks, i know that all i need to do is lower my heart rate, which wouldn't be hard due to the fact that i don't fear them anymore. a friend of mine swam with sharks and i thought they were crazy and i was surprised they were even alive, thinking about it now, i realize that i'm more jealous then anything. i want to do what i can to help, i'm willing to use my whole summer and every summer to come, to help bring the sharks back from being endangered, please contact me if possible. i don't have that bad stage fright when talking about something i like, (sharks) also i'm willing to stand p in front of people, including cops. again, i would LOVE to help, no matter what it takes.
