Oceans cant do without sharks, we must protect these animals and the complete marine ecosystems.
Sharkvin soup should go off from menu lists world-wide.

As member of the Diving business for 2 decades in the Caribbean I can tell you with authority that not only will your tourism be impacted negatively, so will your other environment revenues. The ocean plays an integral part in all aspects of your land life. Remove Sharks and other life forms will follow, including corals. opening the doors to other countries will bring and invasion of illegal countries as well and you will have no recourse. It will become a disease that will have no cure. What takes a few weeks to decide on will take centuries to undo. In Bonaire (my home as well) the fight against illegal fishing is a constant battle and there are regulations governing all aspects of fishing. Please do not take this destructive step.

I am an avid diver and shark lover. There is nothing more exhilarating that seeing a shark up close in the open water. I cannot believe in today's society we are allowing a country to exterminate a species. WHY? This is insane. And for what? A tasteless soup, from what I am told, that they believe stops humans from getting cancer. WAKE UP CHINA! Shark fins will not stop cancer. Please stop finning EVERYWHERE in the world.

Stop the senseless killing of sharks, now!
Palau is the only loser in all of this, if it allows the re-opening of its water to shark fishing.
Eco-minded tourists will begin to boycott the islands, divers will stop coming and westerners will stop buying its products and goods.
Palua will become a pariah state amongst all green tourists, especially westerners, who will stop bringing their Dollars, Euro's, Sterling and Yen.
I urge Palua and its politicians to think very hard about the the potentially disastrous consequences of their actions.
A wrong move could cost Palua millions of Dollars $$$$$$.
Don't allow shark fishing!

Please re-consider shark-fishing in Palau. Over-fishing on sharks not only upset the eco-system and make them possibly extinct, etc, they are also one lesser factor to attracting tourists.
The state of which the sharks are killed may also open up to future never-before diseases associated with eating possibly sick sharks (sharks with diabetes, etc) as many of their meat are not sent for pre-testing etc.
Please re-consider about allowing shark-fishing in waters of Palau. Thank you!
Kelly

Sharks are important parts of our ocean ecosystem and too many of them are illegally hunted for their fins. Please dont open up shark fishing in your waters. I would rather see them alive than dead. You can make money off them longer that way.

Sharks are a key species, and ninety percent of our big fish have already vanished from the ocean. When I snorkel on reefs, I can see dead zones and bleached coral. We must do everything that we can to protect our oceans and the creatures that are vital to our ecosystem.

Sharks worldwide are under assault from unsustainable fishing practices. Please do not open up your waters to shark fishing. Much more money would be made by starting scuba and snorkeling tours, with sharks as the focus.

As a scuba instructor and a health care provider I wish to voice my plea not to allow shark fishing in your waters. Besides the financial benefit from tourism, the potential health benefits that can be learned from sharks is unlimited. For the benefit of all mankind, please do not allow shark fishing.

This is about short-term vs. long-term. Allowing shark finning will only bring short-term monetary benefits but will end up destroying the ecosystem that is helping Palau. Sharks eat fish that consume plankton that take in carbon dioxide. If sharks were killed off, then there would be more greenhouse causing carbon dioxide, because the fish would overgraze on the plankton. Instead, there should be a greater focus on the eco-tourism that is such a great draw.

I think all the tour operators should work together and tell the Palau government they will all stop bringing tourist there if shark finning will be open in Palau water. Palau will loose a lot of money without tourism , may be that will make them understand they need to protect their very precious environment. I hope there will be no more shark finning anywhere in the world.

The sharks will be over fished and disgustingly slaughtered. left to suffer before death. They are vital to our ecosystems and without them they will crash. Please keep them protected. It takes at least 7 years for them to even be ready to breed!

After all of the science that shows the numbers of sharks around the world are quickly declining, this would be a grave mistake to open up the waters to sharking. These predators must be protected to keep the balance of the worlds oceans. Without them, our ecosystem will be severely damaged.
