Shark-finning is a short-sighted environmental atrocity.

Our dive group *had* planned to travel to Palau. We will likely cancel that plan. No member of our decades old Triton club wants anything to do with a country that allows this horrific and barbaric practice.

In my ten visits to Palau I viewed the goverment to be solid in its concern for the beauty and health of her Oceans. Fast maoney will lose money in the long term.

Palau has been on our list of "next" dive trips, however, we will remove it until the Palau government adopts a shark-friendly, anti-overfishing policy.

I visited Palau recently and I can say that the sharks were absolutely the reason I chose Palau. I brought a group of 6 to Palau and collectively we spent a great deal of money locally. Each of us then recommended Palau to our other diving friends because of the fantastically healthy reef system and exciting big animal diving. I fully intended to return with another large group in the next few years but if shark fishing is allowed there will be no reason to return at all. Once the sharks start disappearing the effect will trickle down to the rest of the reef and soon a once vibrant, healthy eco system will be barren. I encourage you not only to reject this bill but to follow the example of the Maldivian government in banning all shark fishing. As the trickle down effect works in the marine environment so it does in the diving world too.

I dove in Palau for a week in 2005 and loved it. The sharks at Blue Corner, Peleiu Express, and several other sites were real highlights of the trip. I rarely go back to places I've visited but Palau was one destination I thought I'd like to return to. Please don't let 'em destroy the shark population. You'll be sorry. Mr. Pat

Please protect nature with beautiful Palau. Might not be done the indiscriminate fishing of the shark. Other parts are thought that not being effectively used is a reality by catching fish to capture the shark's fin. Please think about the influence that the [finning] fishing causes the envirommental destruction.

I spent almost 4 weeks in Koror, Palau in 2008 diving and touring and was planning to return within 2 years. I will not be returning if this law passes and I will be informing all my national and international dive friends of the slaughter of sharks in Palau. The BBC just published an article noting 50% of all shark species are endangered. Conservation and protection are paramount right now, not exploitation for profit. This law will surely have a very negative effect on tourism to Palau.

In my State we killed off the buffalo in just a few years as a feature of entrepreneurship, and to help kill off Indians. Our vast prairie is still far from recovering. Your marine environment faces similar devestation by threatening such a vital creature to nature

I have never been to palau. But I plan on going some day. When I do I want to enjoy it for what it is. Not what it used to be. Protect the sharks.

My dive group spent 10 days in your beautiful islands in 2002, and we hope to return some time. The Palau Pacific Resort was great, as was the liveaboard dive boat with Peter Hughes. The sharks at the blue corner were fantastic, and what I remember most about being under water. PLEASE save your sharks for us and our grandchildren.
